Bartlesville declares itself a Purple Heart City

During a recent city council meeting in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Mayor Dale Copeland officially proclaimed the city as a Purple Heart City, honoring veterans who have been wounded or killed in combat. The proclamation, read by Vice Mayor Kurt, emphasized the community's deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by military personnel. Mitch Reed, a representative of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, attended the meeting to present a special recognition award to the city for its commitment to honoring combat-wounded veterans. Reed expressed his appreciation for the city's efforts, noting that while many cities have adopted this designation, Bartlesville's recognition is particularly meaningful.

In addition to the proclamation, the council discussed various openings on city boards and commissions, encouraging residents to get involved in local governance. The meeting also included a lengthy consent docket, which covered numerous administrative approvals, including appointments to various committees, budget amendments, and contracts related to city services.

Key items included the ratification of appointments to the Bartlesville Development Authority and the approval of contracts for engineering services related to the wastewater treatment plant expansion. The council also addressed a memorandum of understanding to provide paid administrative leave for a firefighter assisting in recovery efforts following a recent tornado.
