Community members demand action on critical road safety issues

During a recent council meeting, community members voiced concerns regarding local safety issues and project updates. James Boho, a resident of Rice Township, presented a proposal inspired by Sweden's \"Vision Zero\" initiative, aimed at addressing roadway safety problems. He emphasized the critical safety rating of the intersection at 4th Street and Highway 20, highlighting that it is among the 39,100 intersections in District 2 rated poorly, with only 37 classified as critical. Boho urged the council to investigate why safety information related to this intersection had not been previously disclosed.

Elisa Barrel, a Galena resident, requested regular updates on the status of the PARCO project during council meetings. She expressed frustration over the lack of communication regarding expenses incurred in defending the project, indicating that most of her information came from external reports rather than the council.

The meeting proceeded to the consent agenda, where a motion was made to approve CA 24-13, which included a pay raise for police department lieutenants and chiefs. Council members expressed their support for the compensation adjustments, acknowledging the hard work of the police force.
