City proposes $167 million budget to meet growing demands

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year, highlighting significant funding allocations aimed at addressing the city's growing needs. The proposed operating budget stands at $18.4 million, which will support 101 positions, including two new plan examiners. The Utility Systems Operating Fund is proposed at $128.4 million, supporting 325 positions with 13 new roles added to meet increasing service demands driven by the city's growth.

The Utility Systems Connections fee fund is set at $15.5 million, which will fund seven positions, including one new field technician. City officials emphasized the importance of prioritizing public safety in the budget, particularly in response to resident requests for a safe, clean, and beautiful community. This focus includes additional funding for the police department and improvements to police facilities.

The capital budget, which was tentatively approved in April, has been amended to $167 million, reflecting a $23.7 million increase from the previous proposal. Key projects include $20.5 million for Torino Regional Park and $2.4 million for OL Peacock Park. However, some projects, such as a golf course teaching facility, were eliminated from the budget, prompting discussions about the need for clearer communication regarding changes in future presentations.
