In a recent government meeting, homeowner Nola Pickman shared her family's journey to acquiring their new home in Huntington Woods, emphasizing their deep-rooted connection to the area. Pickman, who moved back to the region with her husband Jared after living in Traverse City, expressed their long-standing desire to settle in Huntington Woods, where Jared grew up. The couple found their dream home at 8019 Concours shortly after the birth of their daughter, leading to a competitive bidding process that they ultimately won.
During the meeting, Pickman outlined their plans for a first-floor addition to the house, located at the corner of Concord and York. She clarified that the front of the house faces York, despite the front door being on Concord. The proposed addition will extend less than five feet into the side yard, primarily focusing on interior renovations to modernize the space while maintaining the home's original style.
The couple has engaged designer Amanda Wolf, who is also Jared's cousin, to assist with the project. Pickman noted that the existing structure has areas in disrepair, particularly a bay window that will be removed to facilitate the addition. The design aims to match the existing brick and window styles, ensuring the new construction harmonizes with the original architecture.
The meeting highlighted the family's excitement about the project and their commitment to preserving the character of their new home while making necessary updates. The proposal is now awaiting approval, with hopes of moving forward soon.
