Students unite to spread hope and strength in schools

During a recent government meeting, school counselors Tara Joyce and Maddox Rae presented the progress of the \"Sources of Strength\" program implemented at Pickens High School and junior high. This initiative aims to foster a supportive school environment by empowering students to act as peer leaders and connect with trusted adults.

Joyce highlighted the program's focus on creating a culture of hope and resilience among students, emphasizing its evidence-based approach to combat issues such as bullying, substance abuse, and suicide. Rae elaborated on the training session held on March 1, where 80 students and 12 teachers participated in learning how to become effective peer leaders and adult advisors.

The program encourages students to utilize various media—posters, videos, and social media—to promote positive behaviors and social norms. Rae noted that the initiative is designed to make \"hope contagious\" and to enhance connections among students and adults.

One of the successful campaigns involved collaboration with the Beta Club, where students raised $256.55 to purchase personal hygiene products for peers in need. These items will be made available to students, particularly those who benefit from weekend snack packs.

Looking ahead, the school plans to increase student engagement in the Sources of Strength campaigns, continuing to spread messages of hope, health, and strength throughout the school community.
