Vandalism forces removal of beloved chess set

During a recent government meeting, officials addressed the removal of the chess set from Conrad Park due to ongoing vandalism that posed safety hazards. The chess set, originally installed as an Eagle Scout project, suffered significant damage, with pieces being misused and components like lids and locks being removed. The board remains in place, but the chairs and bins have been taken away. City officials are exploring options to create a more durable replacement.

In other news, Wendy Gray has been appointed to lead the Christmas celebration in Waterville, scheduled for December 8, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 7 PM. The event will be relocated to Parker Square, where activities will include tree lighting, food trucks, crafts, and a visit from Santa.
