Community gears up for spectacular July 4th celebration

As the Fourth of July approaches, the city is gearing up for its annual Hearst Stars and Stripes event, scheduled for July 3rd at Hearst Community Park, located at 601 Tree St. Cline Road. The event, which has been held on the eve of the holiday for several years, aims to reduce overtime costs while still providing a festive atmosphere for residents. Festivities will kick off at 6 PM with a performance by Grady Spencer and the Work Band, followed by Professor D at 8 PM, and a fireworks display at 9:30 PM.

In a community-focused initiative, attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods for a food drive benefiting local nonprofits, including 6 Stones. Collection points will be set up near the food trucks on the east side of the park.

City offices will be closed on July 4th in observance of the holiday, although central services will remain operational. Additionally, a household hazardous waste event is scheduled for July 13th from 8 to 11 AM at 2001 Precinct Line Road.

During the meeting, officials acknowledged the community's patience regarding storm debris cleanup efforts. Republic Services has been managing cleanup across the Dallas Fort Metroplex following recent storms, and city representatives assured residents that they are working diligently to restore regular trash and recycling services. They anticipate that all storm debris will be cleared within the next one to two weeks, hoping for stable weather conditions moving forward.

The meeting concluded with an invitation for public comments, although no residents chose to address the council at that time.
