Community rallies for veterans with new memorial trail and events

Residents of The Colony will soon benefit from a curbside pickup service for yard waste, starting June 17th. This initiative is aimed at assisting those who were unable to transport their limbs to the 5 Star facility. Residents are encouraged to place their yard waste by the curb for free collection, eliminating the need for bundling.

During the recent government meeting, officials expressed gratitude for the early construction of Fire Station 4 and Fire Station 5, which significantly improved emergency response capabilities. The new stations allowed all fire crews to be operational simultaneously during a recent severe weather event, ensuring community safety.

In addition to public safety updates, the Parks and Recreation Department announced several upcoming community events. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly enhanced Veterans Memorial Trail will take place on June 6th, featuring ten monuments honoring various military branches and veterans. The event is open to the public and will include light refreshments.

The department also highlighted the Colony Summer Clubhouse series, a free program for children featuring interactive activities every Friday throughout the summer, except for the week of July 4th. The Independence Day parade is set for July 4th, starting at 10 AM, with free entry for participants and cash prizes for top entries. The day will also include a 5K run, a festival, and a fireworks display featuring upgraded shells for a more impressive show.

Lastly, a free school supplies program for children in grades pre-K through 8 will be held on July 17th, with registration opening on July 4th. The program aims to support families in need, ensuring that students are prepared for the upcoming school year.
