City Council Approves Late Night Fireworks for July 4th

During the recent city council meeting, several key items were discussed and approved as part of the consent agenda. The council approved the minutes from the regular session held on May 7, 2024, and authorized expenditures from March 2024.

A notable item was the approval of a resolution allowing the mayor to amend the authorized representatives for the text pool. Additionally, the council passed an ordinance permitting a fireworks display at 10:45 PM on July 3rd at the Grand Scape Lifestyle Center. This later timing aims to enhance the experience for attendees, as previous shows held earlier in the evening faced challenges due to daylight. Furthermore, the council authorized the city manager to issue a purchase order for furniture for the new recreation center, with a budget not exceeding $100,796.60, funded by the community development corporation.

Council member Joel Marks recused himself from the discussion and voting on the furniture purchase item, leading to a motion for approval by another council member.
