Generations Park project wins prestigious state building award

In a recent government meeting, project manager Gary Johnson presented the prestigious TEXO Distinguished Building Award for the Generations Park at the Boy's Ranch project, highlighting the achievement as a significant milestone for the city. The project, which had a construction budget of approximately $58 million, was recognized among 82 submissions across various categories, ultimately securing the top spot in its division.

Johnson credited the success of the project to the collaborative efforts of the architect, OWT, and the construction firm, Steele and Freeman, as well as the city’s vision to develop such a facility. The timeline of the project was outlined, noting that the city hired OWT in November 2018, followed by the selection of Steele and Freeman as the construction manager in June 2019. The groundbreaking took place in November 2020, and the facility officially opened for use by the YMCA in December 2022, culminating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony in January 2023.

During the meeting, representatives from Steele and Freeman, including Brian Hennington, expressed their excitement about the award and the project’s journey, emphasizing the extensive planning and effort that went into its realization. The council members were presented with trophies commemorating the award, marking a proud moment for the city and its stakeholders involved in the project.
