City Council Debates Major Upgrades for Mountain Ridge Park

During a recent council meeting, discussions centered on the development of Mountain Ridge Park Phase 2, particularly the placement of a new ninja course and the potential for a stage. The council had previously approved a master plan that included the ninja course located near the playground. However, there is now consideration to relocate the ninja course to the area designated for a permanent stage, contingent on the council's decision to forgo the stage.

City officials presented a visual plan illustrating how the ninja course could fit within the existing sports fields, noting that adjustments would be necessary to accommodate existing electrical infrastructure in the area. The council was provided with a list of pros and cons regarding both options, and further discussions were encouraged.

The meeting also addressed the financial aspects of the project. The council is contemplating moving forward with amenities for Phase 2, estimated at $1.2 million, which would utilize funds already allocated in the parks capital fund. The remaining balance after construction would be approximately $800,000, prompting questions about whether to allocate these funds for additional projects or preserve them for future needs.

Key amenities under consideration include the ninja course, a stage foundation, shade structures for spectators at baseball games, fencing for a futsal court, security cameras, conduits for future lighting, and a maintenance building for the baseball field. The proposed maintenance building would be a duplicate of a previously awarded structure, designed for efficiency and quick construction as winter approaches.

The council is expected to make decisions on these proposals in upcoming meetings, weighing the benefits of immediate improvements against the potential for future projects.
