During a recent government meeting, library officials reported a successful turnout for this year's community events, with over 22,100 attendees. The introduction of food trucks and a dinosaur exhibit proved particularly popular, prompting discussions on how to incorporate similar attractions in future events.
Library circulation numbers showed a significant increase, with visitor numbers rising from 15,000 in March-April to 22,000 in May-June, attributed to the summer influx of patrons. The library has also seen a surge in new library card registrations, issuing 875 cards in a recent period.
Digital resources remain a focal point, with the popular Hoopla service experiencing such high usage that restrictions on borrowing credits were implemented to manage costs. Library officials have requested a budget increase for digital resources to sustain the growing demand.
In addition to operational updates, the library hosted a tour for officials from the town of Prosper, who are exploring the possibility of building a new library. The discussions included insights on library design and functionality.
The meeting also highlighted community engagement efforts, including participation in local events like the Taste of Wiley, where library staff connected with residents and promoted library services.
Looking ahead, the library is preparing for several upcoming programs, including a Friends of the Library book sale and a Harry Potter-themed event, both designed to foster community involvement and enjoyment.
