School District Plans Major Boundary Changes Amid Rapid Growth

In a recent school board meeting, officials discussed the planning and implementation of attendance boundary modifications for two new elementary schools, set to open in the 2025-2026 school year. Ted Bierling, Chief Operations Officer, and Chris Poole, Chief Data Analyst, presented the proposal aimed at addressing the rapid population growth in the district, particularly in the Ellison and Sonterra neighborhoods.

The new schools, designated as Elementary 47 and Elementary 48, are currently under construction and are expected to alleviate overcrowding in existing schools. Poole highlighted that without these modifications, schools in the area could exceed their capacities significantly in the coming years, with projections indicating that some schools could reach 200% capacity by 2033.

The proposed boundary changes will involve moving students from overcrowded schools to the new facilities. The district plans to conduct a survey to gather feedback from affected families, with results expected to be presented at the September board meeting. Final approval for the boundary modifications is anticipated in October.

Board members expressed support for the survey process, emphasizing the importance of community input in the decision-making. The discussions underscored the district's proactive approach to managing growth and ensuring adequate educational facilities for its expanding student population.
