Public comments ignite debate over school closure proposal

During a recent special called meeting, the Plano Independent School District Board confirmed compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, ensuring that all necessary notices were properly posted. President Humphrey initiated the meeting by confirming this compliance with Superintendent Williams.

The meeting included a public comment session, where ten speakers were registered to address agenda items. President Humphrey outlined the rules governing the public comment period, emphasizing that speakers must adhere strictly to the topics they signed up for and that any disruptions could lead to removal from the meeting. Each speaker was allotted three minutes to present their views, with strict enforcement of time limits.

The first speaker, Katie Strong, a parent and staff member within the district, addressed the board regarding the proposed closure of Davis Elementary School. The board reiterated the importance of maintaining order during the public comment session and reminded attendees to silence their cell phones.
