City approves major sewer project to prevent future flooding

In a recent city council meeting, officials discussed significant infrastructure projects and approved resolutions aimed at enhancing local facilities.

One of the key topics was the ongoing collaboration with regional agencies to address water-related issues, particularly in areas outside city limits. Council members emphasized the importance of participating in state-level decisions that impact the community, especially concerning the southeast quadrant of the county.

The council also approved a resolution to accept a bid from Advanced Roofing for a much-needed reroofing project at City Hall and the Oakdale Police Department. The project, costing approximately $148,214, addresses severe leaks that have developed over the past rainy season. City staff noted that the existing roof, over 20 years old, had shown significant wear and required immediate attention to protect city assets.

Additionally, the council reviewed the completion of the Sewer River Crossing project, which involved replacing an outdated sewer mainline that crossed the river. TNS Construction was awarded the contract for this project, which included the installation of a new 6-inch line that runs 40 feet below the riverbed. This upgrade is crucial for maintaining the efficiency of the city’s sewage system and ensuring environmental safety.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote on both action items, reflecting the council's commitment to infrastructure improvements and proactive management of city resources.
