New board leadership elected amid community support surge

In a significant reorganization meeting, the Richardson Independent School District (RISD) Board of Trustees elected new leadership and acknowledged substantial community contributions. Chris Poteet was elected as the new board president, succeeding the outgoing president, who received heartfelt thanks for her service. Superintendent Tabitha Branham facilitated the nominations and expressed gratitude for the support she received from the previous leadership.

Following Poteet's election, Eric Eager was nominated and confirmed as vice president, while Rachel McGowan was elected as the board secretary. The board also appointed Vanessa Pacheco as the TASB delegate alternate, ensuring continuity in representation at the Texas Association of School Boards.

The meeting highlighted the district's strong community support, with Branham presenting a report on donations exceeding $5,000. A total of 11 significant gifts were reported, amounting to over $217,000, with contributions from various organizations, including local PTAs and businesses. The total value of gifts received this month reached $243,051.63, underscoring the community's commitment to enhancing educational resources within the district.

The board unanimously approved the consent agenda, which included routine items for consideration, and expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from parents and community organizations that contribute to the district's success.
