Spring ISD launches ambitious pre-K enrollment campaign

During a recent Spring Independent School District (ISD) board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Hinojosa highlighted the district's ongoing efforts to enhance early childhood education and improve community outreach. The district is collaborating with Good Reason Houston to secure funding for a new marketing plan aimed at increasing enrollment in pre-kindergarten programs. As part of this initiative, billboards have been placed in high-traffic areas to promote Spring ISD amidst competition from charter schools.

Dr. Hinojosa expressed confidence in the district's pre-K program, noting that previous enrollment goals have been met and exceeded. This year, the goal has been set at 2,250 students, emphasizing the importance of early literacy skills in preparing children for kindergarten. The superintendent acknowledged the contributions of pre-K teachers and staff, particularly Jennifer Bassett, the pre-K coordinator.

In addition to enrollment strategies, the meeting addressed upcoming summer school programs, which will run from June 10 to July 10. The district plans to offer transportation for students attending summer sessions, ensuring accessibility for families.

Public participation was also a key component of the meeting, with community member Michelle Williams voicing concerns over funding issues. Williams criticized the district's request for increased local funding, arguing that the financial burden on taxpayers is growing while state funding remains inadequate. She urged the board to seek additional support from state officials rather than relying on local taxpayers.
