Lubbock students shine at state academic competitions

In a recent meeting of the Lubbock Independent School District (LISD), the board celebrated significant academic achievements and recognized outstanding students for their performances in various competitions. The meeting commenced with a prayer led by Reverend Carpenter, emphasizing blessings for teacher retention, funding, and student self-belief.

Chad Haskins, the advanced academics coordinator, highlighted the success of LISD students in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) academic contests, which encompass 30 different events including math, science, and speech. He acknowledged four students from Coronado High School who excelled at the UIL state academic meet, including Will Edwards, who placed 2nd in accounting, and Owen Edwards, who secured 1st in computer applications.

The meeting also featured Linda Landin, principal of Waters Elementary, who recognized the achievements of LISD's Destination Imagination teams. A record 13 teams advanced to the state tournament, with Ramirez Elementary's team notably finishing 1st in the technical challenge at the Global Finals, marking a historic achievement for the school.

The board's recognition of these accomplishments underscores LISD's commitment to fostering academic excellence and providing students with opportunities to showcase their skills on both state and national stages.
