County honors 9/11 victims with service and remembrance day

In a recent meeting of the Johnson County Commissioner's Court, members gathered to address several important community matters, including public announcements and proclamations. All members were present as the meeting commenced with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Commissioners shared updates on local events, notably the anticipated opening of Old Foamy, contingent on weather conditions. A piece of the Twin Towers will be displayed at Yellowjackets Stadium on September 11, allowing residents to reflect on the tragic events of that day.

The court proceeded to issue a proclamation for September 11 as a Day of Service and Remembrance, honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the attacks and recognizing the heroism of first responders. County Judge Christopher Bedaker emphasized the importance of remembering this day and encouraged community participation in service projects to honor those affected.

Additionally, the court proclaimed September as National Service Dog Month, acknowledging the vital role service dogs play in the lives of individuals with disabilities. The proclamation aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of service dogs and the need for greater inclusivity within the community. Representatives from K9 Companions expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the transformative impact service dogs have on the lives of veterans and individuals with disabilities.
