Community unites for free health screenings and services

In a recent government meeting, Dr. John Ray Titano, president of the Tanota Lions Club, announced a significant community outreach event aimed at providing free medical services to residents of Guam. Scheduled for August 18 at the Syngenta Community Center from 12 PM to 4 PM, the initiative will offer a range of health services including diabetes screenings, hypertension checks, and school physicals, all at no cost to participants.

Dr. Titano, who has practiced medicine in Guam for over 44 years, emphasized the importance of giving back to the community that has supported him throughout his career. He highlighted the collaboration between various healthcare providers, including the Department of Public Health, Guam Memorial Hospital, and Guam Behavioral Health, to ensure a comprehensive range of services is available.

The outreach is designed to be inclusive, welcoming individuals regardless of their insurance status. Dr. Titano encouraged those without insurance or facing financial difficulties to attend, while also inviting insured individuals to participate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Addressing concerns about transportation, particularly for residents in southern Guam, Dr. Titano acknowledged the challenges and mentioned plans for a mobile health clinic in the future. This initiative aims to extend medical services directly to villages, making healthcare more accessible.

Additionally, in response to a request from the mayor of Steinheim, Dr. Titano confirmed that ear cleaning services would be provided for seniors experiencing earwax issues, further demonstrating the outreach's commitment to addressing specific community health needs.

The meeting concluded with a call for mayors to help disseminate information about the event, ensuring that as many residents as possible can benefit from the free medical services being offered.
