A resident, who has been actively involved in the Creek Watcher program with Cape Fear River Watch, highlighted alarming levels of E. coli and bacteria in local creeks, including Bridal Creek and Price Creek. The resident noted that these levels exceed EPA safety standards, posing potential health risks, especially for children playing in the water. They urged the town to conduct further testing to identify the sources of contamination and suggested implementing signage to warn residents about unsafe water conditions.

Another resident, Matt Watson, expressed concerns about proposed changes to the road infrastructure on East Bay Street. He warned that removing a curve and replacing it with a gravel parking lot could exacerbate water runoff issues, creating hazardous conditions for pedestrians and cyclists. Watson emphasized that the impact of these changes would affect the entire neighborhood, not just those living directly adjacent to the proposed site.
