Residents rally to protect quiet cul de sac from development

Residents of the 400 block of Harvard Place expressed their concerns during a recent city council meeting regarding potential changes to their neighborhood's cul de sac status. Cheryl Lemke, a long-time resident, emphasized the importance of maintaining the cul de sac, citing its quiet nature and lack of through traffic as key reasons for choosing to live there since 1991. She warned that if a developer were to purchase the Graber House Olive property at 315 East 4th Street, it could lead to increased traffic, noise, and a decline in property values, fundamentally altering the character of their community.

Lemke urged the city council and planning commission to consider the residents' wishes to preserve the cul de sac, highlighting the significant impact such a change would have on their quality of life.

In a separate discussion, Sherry Moody raised concerns about the impending displacement of Mountain View Storage, where she currently parks her RV. Moody noted that while the land has been sold, the facility is not required to vacate until next year. She argued that forcing the business to relocate sooner would impose undue hardship on her and other community members who rely on the storage facility for secure parking. Moody shared her personal experience of having her RV vandalized while parked on the street, underscoring the importance of having a trustworthy storage option.

Both speakers called on the city council to consider the implications of their decisions on local residents and businesses, emphasizing the need for community-oriented solutions.
