Highlands honors Gunther family legacy on 100th anniversary

In a recent meeting, the borough of Highlands celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Gunther family as summer residents, marking a century of cherished memories in the community. The Gunther family, originally from Manhattan, first visited Highlands in 1924 and has since maintained a strong presence, with five generations enjoying summers filled with family traditions and joy. The mayor and council officially recognized this milestone, wishing the Gunthers many more memorable summers to come.

The meeting also included the approval of minutes from previous sessions, with all motions passing unanimously. The council reviewed and approved two significant ordinances: the first, amending the retail food handling establishment code regarding grease traps, and the second, updating the stormwater management and control regulations in line with the latest Department of Environmental Protection guidelines. Both ordinances passed on their second and final readings, reflecting the council's commitment to community health and environmental stewardship.
