City leaders tackle housing crisis and celebrate new citizens

During a recent government meeting, significant discussions highlighted the community's commitment to public transportation and housing initiatives. Councilmember Gloyn, who has extensive experience with various forms of transport, is set to be voted on for nomination on July 16th. Gloyn, a resident of a newer area near Bahal Circle Park, utilizes public transportation and occasionally rents cars or kayaks to access local amenities, showcasing a lifestyle that prioritizes sustainable transport options.

Councilmember Jensen shared updates from the Waste Management Authority Board, where he was elected as the first vice president. He also reported on his participation in two simultaneous meetings on June 21st, where he represented Alameda in the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the League of California Cities. Jensen noted the successful passage of the ABAG budget and expressed optimism about the Bay Area Housing Financing Authority measure potentially appearing on the November ballot, reflecting ongoing concerns about housing in the region.

Additionally, Jensen participated in a leadership program at Saint Mary's College, aimed at empowering young women, many of whom are first-generation college students. He also attended a Juneteenth celebration at Coast Guard Island, where he spoke and engaged with young Coast Guard members, emphasizing the importance of community connections.

The meeting concluded with announcements of upcoming events, including a naturalization ceremony on the USS Hornet, where 76 new U.S. citizens will be sworn in, further underscoring the community's dedication to inclusivity and civic engagement.
