City opens cooling center as heat wave approaches

During a recent city council meeting, staff acknowledged the efforts of Lashonda, Jennifer, and the HR team for their work in organizing the agenda. A key item discussed was the lease agreement for 1005 Center Drive, which has been requested to be pulled from the agenda and returned for further consideration at a later date.

In response to an excessive heat warning, with temperatures projected to exceed 104 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday, the city announced the opening of the Marinas Community Center as a cooling center from 4 to 7 PM on both days. Residents are also encouraged to utilize the library and Buchanan Pool to stay cool during the heatwave.

Upcoming community events were highlighted, including the 1st Bridal event at Marina Green scheduled for this Friday at 5:30 PM and a car show set for Thursday, July 11th. The council also extended wishes for a safe 4th of July, noting that fireworks in Pittsburgh are planned to take place between 9 and 9:30 PM on the holiday.

The meeting then transitioned to the public comment phase, allowing community members to voice their opinions on both agenda and non-agenda items.
