Students soar to success with record college placements

In a recent government meeting, officials highlighted the impressive post-secondary education trends among local students, revealing that 86% are pursuing higher education, with a significant majority opting for four-year institutions. Notably, Delaware Community College is a popular choice for many students, particularly those from technical programs, who may enter with up to 12 credits.

The meeting also showcased the diverse destinations of graduates, with Penn State leading the way, followed by West Chester University and the University of Pittsburgh. A noteworthy mention was made of five students heading to Ivy League schools, alongside a growing interest in technical education, which is becoming increasingly competitive due to high demand from employers.

Scholarship opportunities were discussed, with local scholarships totaling over $164,000 and overall scholarships exceeding $6 million. However, officials noted that this figure could rise as some students are still finalizing their college decisions.

For those not immediately pursuing college, 59% of students are entering the workforce, while others are taking a gap year or exploring alternative paths. The meeting emphasized the importance of providing support for these students, including encouraging applications to community colleges as a backup plan.

The graduation ceremony, held on June 4th at the Bob Carpenter Center, was also celebrated, marking a significant milestone for the students and the community.
