Planning Board Revamps Controversial Residential Development Proposal

In a recent government meeting, significant discussions centered around the development plan for a residential project located off Route 31. The proposal includes seven residential buildings, with a shift from four-story to three-story structures in response to community feedback emphasizing the need for a more walkable village aesthetic.

Key features of the revised plan include two-way access drives from both East Genesee and Salina streets, a central clubhouse, and a redesigned road network aimed at reducing traffic cut-throughs. The development will also incorporate a stormwater management area and a 50-foot landscape buffer to separate the project from nearby residences.

Concerns regarding traffic flow and parking were prominent, with the plan now featuring approximately 1.6 parking spaces per residential unit, distributed across garage and surface parking. The developers are also exploring the possibility of an access road to a nearby supply store to further alleviate traffic issues.

The planning board expressed a desire for continued dialogue on the project, particularly regarding access points and the overall integration of the development into the community. As the project evolves, stakeholders remain focused on balancing residential needs with maintaining the village's character and accessibility.
