City unveils ambitious plan to enhance roadway safety

During a recent city council meeting, members discussed the progress of the Multi-Modal Transportation Plan (MMTP), a collaborative effort with the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) aimed at enhancing roadway safety and accessibility for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.

Council member Carol presented an updated version of the MMTP, acknowledging previous typographical errors in the documentation. She emphasized the importance of the plan, which identifies critical improvements to roadways based on crash data and community feedback gathered through public meetings and an online survey.

The MMTP outlines seven priority roadways identified as accident clusters, with recommendations categorized into short-term (0-2 years) and medium-term (2-5 years) projects. The council highlighted the significance of a recent roadway safety audit funded by the MPO, which not only assesses current roadway conditions but also positions the city to qualify for federal funding for future improvements.

Funding for some of these projects is already included in the 2027 Florida Department of Transportation budget, indicating a commitment to advancing the city's transportation infrastructure. The council is set to review the preliminary recommendations further, as they align with broader environmental and sustainability goals.
