Deb Gilpin announces retirement after transformative decade at museum

Deb Gilpin, the esteemed president and CEO of Madison Children's Museum, has announced her retirement, effective summer 2024, after 11 impactful years leading the institution. Gilpin, a Madison native, returned to her hometown in 2013 after helping to open two museums in other states. Under her stewardship, the museum has welcomed over two million visitors, introduced several new exhibits, and significantly improved its financial health.

During her tenure, Gilpin championed initiatives aimed at enhancing accessibility and sustainability. Notably, she launched the \"Access for Everyone\" program, which saw participation increase from 17% to 35% by eliminating documentation requirements for membership and admission. Additionally, she spearheaded the teen workforce program to bridge the job opportunity gap for teens of color and introduced the museum's first \"pay what you can\" restaurant, Little John's Lunchbox.

The Madison City Council expressed their gratitude for Gilpin's contributions during a recent meeting, where Mayor Rhodes Conway and several council members praised her dedication to the community and the museum's mission.
