Community unites to tackle flooding crisis and recovery efforts

In a recent government meeting, the board approved a significant funding agreement aimed at enhancing traffic safety in the area. The agreement, which involves a $500,000 grant from the private Department of Transportation (DOT), will support the installation of a roundabout at the intersection of 170th Street and B56, located south of the airport. The total estimated cost for the project is $1.2 million, with the grant covering a portion of the expenses on a reimbursement basis. The design phase is expected to commence this year, with construction likely starting in the summer of 2026.

During the meeting, board members also expressed gratitude for community efforts in response to recent flooding. Several officials thanked volunteers and local organizations for their assistance in sandbagging efforts, which were crucial in mitigating the impact of the floods on affected areas, particularly in Lehi. The board acknowledged the collaborative spirit of the community and highlighted the importance of ongoing support and communication regarding flood recovery efforts.

Additionally, the meeting featured a farewell to Shelly Escobedo, the victim witness coordinator in the county attorney's office, who is retiring. Board members congratulated her on her service and wished her well in her future endeavors.

The board also celebrated local achievements, including Port Dodge receiving the Destination Partner of the Year award at the 2024 Midwest Travel Network Conference, showcasing the region's commitment to tourism and community engagement.
