She emphasized her discomfort with the current environment, which has deterred her from practicing basketball outside her home.

Candy Stone, a local business owner, echoed these sentiments, warning that the shelter could attract undesirable elements to the community, including drug users and dealers. She recounted her experiences growing up in Waukegan, highlighting the negative impacts of similar developments in her past. She expressed concern for the safety of children in the area, particularly with two daycares located close to the proposed shelter site.
