Water main break causes chaos as crews race to repair

Public Works Director reported on a significant water main break that occurred on Gibraltar, which was particularly notable due to its impact on the community. The break, caused by a hole in a 16-inch transmission main, was first reported by police late Friday night. Crews responded promptly, arriving on-site within 30 minutes, and managed to shut down the affected valves by 1 a.m. Repairs were completed overnight despite challenging weather conditions.

The director noted that the incident would require a formal report to the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) due to exceeding the daily water limit as stipulated in their contract. This report will include documentation of the break, photographs, and other relevant information.

Additionally, it was highlighted that another water break occurred in Gibraltar the same night, suggesting a possible pressure surge from GLWA. The director explained that recent storms had caused pressure levels to spike, contributing to the infrastructure issues. The meeting underscored the ongoing challenges faced by the city in managing its water systems and the need for continued vigilance and infrastructure investment.
