A new drive-in theater, \"Blast from the Past,\" is set to open in Franklin, offering a nostalgic cinematic experience dedicated to showcasing films from the 1930s through the 2000s. The project, which won approval as part of a mixed-use development initiative, aims to provide a family-friendly environment where children, teens, and adults can enjoy classic movies together.
Scheduled to open on October 30, 2025, the drive-in will feature two themed movies each day, with screenings running from 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM. The programming will rotate through different decades, allowing audiences to experience films from various eras throughout the week. For instance, Mondays will focus on the 1930s and 1940s, while Fridays will highlight the 1970s and 1980s.
The venue will include a gravel parking area where patrons can watch movies from their cars or bring chairs for a more comfortable viewing experience. Concessions will be available, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the movie-going experience.
The development aligns with the Envision Franklin plan, which outlines community growth and development strategies for the next 30 years. The project is expected to undergo a four-month design phase, followed by a month of preconstruction, with construction commencing in November 2024.
The total estimated cost for the drive-in theater is approximately $4 million, which includes various fees for civil work, design, permits, and landscaping. The project aims to create a calm and enjoyable gathering spot in the city, contributing to the local community's recreational offerings.
