City Council Demands Transparency in DRI Project Decisions

In a recent government meeting, discussions centered around the ongoing demolition plans for the Furbish shacks, a project that has drawn attention due to its historical significance and the presence of hazardous materials, including asbestos. One council member emphasized the need for open meetings, arguing that public access to discussions about the $10 million DRI grant is essential for maintaining trust in government operations.

Additionally, there were calls for more regular updates from the consultant on the status of DRI projects, as council members noted a lack of communication over the past two years, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
