The Santa Ana City Council convened recently, concluding its public speaker segment without any participants on Zoom. The council then moved to the consent calendar, where items numbered 3 through 25 were reviewed. Council members were invited to declare any abstentions, leading to the decision to pull items 20 and 24 for further discussion, while item 12 prompted a comment from Council Member Hernandez.
A motion to approve the remaining items was made by Council Member Becerra and seconded by Council Member Penaloza, resulting in a unanimous vote of 6-0, with Council Member Lopez temporarily absent.
The meeting also featured the swearing-in of two new youth commissioners, Kat Fam and Neland Munoz, who took their oaths of office, pledging to support and defend the U.S. Constitution and the Constitution of California.
Council Member Hernandez highlighted the approval of a conditional grant agreement worth $2.2 million with Habitat for Humanity of Orange County. This agreement will facilitate the development of six affordable ownership units in the Artisia Pilar neighborhood, a significant step towards enhancing homeownership opportunities in the area. Hernandez encouraged residents to reach out to Habitat for Humanity for more information.
The council then proceeded to discuss the lease agreement with Walsh Construction Company for office space at the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center, marking a continued effort to enhance local infrastructure and services.
