Trooper honored with memorial highway after tragic sacrifice

In tribute to his dedication and sacrifice, O'Neil introduced House Bill 5717, which proposes designating a section of Highway I-75 in Saginaw County as the \"Trooper Joe Epop Memorial Highway.\" This memorial aims to enshrine Popp's service and ensure that his legacy continues to inspire future generations.

Sergeant O'Neil further elaborated on Trooper Popp's character, noting that he joined the Michigan State Police later in life after a successful career in the private sector. At the age of 35, he chose to serve his community, eventually working in Saginaw, where he was well-respected and never faced complaints about his conduct.

Popp's commitment extended beyond his police work; he and his wife also served as foster parents, demonstrating their dedication to giving back to the community. The committee members were urged to support the legislation to honor Trooper Popp's legacy and the impact he had on those around him.
