Mount Prospect celebrates major annexation and business growth

In a significant move for the Village of Mount Prospect, the board held a second reading and adopted an ordinance to annex multiple properties, totaling 24 acres, including addresses on Hamilton and Oakland Streets. This decision marks the culmination of an extensive effort over the past seven to eight years to integrate these areas into the village, bringing the total annexed land to 224 acres.

Trustee Sakateli expressed enthusiasm about the annexation, highlighting the potential for enhanced village services and increased tax revenues from the newly incorporated businesses. However, concerns were raised regarding the challenges of changing addresses for the annexed properties, particularly those currently listed under Arlington Heights. The village has faced difficulties with the U.S. Postal Service in this regard but remains committed to finding a solution.

The meeting also addressed a resolution supporting JMD Land LLC's application for a Cook County Class 6B tax incentive for a property located at 2400 Oakton Street. This incentive, which is designed to stimulate economic development, will reduce property taxes significantly for the first ten years, creating approximately 20 permanent jobs. The board expressed strong support for the incentive, noting its importance in attracting and retaining businesses in the area.
