County Road 70 project set to transform local infrastructure

In a recent government meeting, officials recommended the approval of a design contract for the County Road 70 Corridor Improvement Project, aimed at enhancing a segment of County Road 74 from Geneva Avenue to Cassaw 38 in Newport. This rural two-lane road, approximately half a mile long, is included in the capital improvement plan under project code RB2675.

The project is set to commence with the selected design consultant focusing on data collection and preliminary design, leading to a final design phase. The anticipated construction is scheduled for 2026. Key components of the project include project coordination, stakeholder engagement, drainage and traffic analysis, trail feasibility, permit applications, cost estimating, and the procurement of construction plans.

This initiative reflects Washington County Public Works' commitment to improving local infrastructure and enhancing community connectivity. The meeting underscored the importance of thorough planning and community involvement in the development process.
