Educators demand action on salary equity and student hunger

During a recent government meeting, key discussions centered around educational funding, staff compensation, and community support for a proposed referendum.

Occupational therapist Karen Strickan raised concerns about salary compression affecting veteran staff within the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD). She expressed disappointment over the lack of equitable compensation for experienced employees compared to their newer counterparts. Strickan supported a budget amendment introduced by Nikki Vandermuellen aimed at addressing these salary disparities, arguing that fair compensation is essential for staff retention and morale.
