Community unites for environmental cleanup and July 4th festivities

During a recent government meeting, local officials highlighted community engagement and upcoming events in the city. The mayor reported on a successful council cleanup day held on Alexandria Drive, organized in collaboration with Teresa Rakes. Despite the heat, participants received positive feedback from residents who appreciated the effort to maintain the environment. The mayor encouraged other council members to organize similar cleanup initiatives in their districts throughout the year.

As the Fourth of July approaches, the mayor wished residents a safe holiday and reminded them to be considerate of neighbors when using fireworks. A detailed schedule of events was shared, including the Bluegrass 10K, a fun run, a festival market, and a reading of the Declaration of Independence, culminating in a parade and fireworks display.

Vice Mayor Wu took the opportunity to remind residents over the age of 50 about the availability of the shingles vaccine, emphasizing its importance for health.

In a lighter moment, Council Member Gray celebrated personal milestones, wishing a happy 75th birthday to his mother and sharing that his father had walked for the first time.

The meeting concluded with a public comment session, where one resident, Rick Day, was signed up to speak, indicating ongoing community involvement in local governance.
