Foster City secures vital funding for bike safety initiative

During a recent government meeting, the Foster City Council approved two significant agenda items, including a motion to allocate $80,000 in grant funding for the city's bicycle and pedestrian master plan. This funding marks a notable achievement for the city, as it is the first time Foster City has received such financial support for this initiative.

The grant application was submitted in November 2023 under the TDA Article 3 Bicycle and Pedestrian Program. The project aims to enhance safety and accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians throughout the city. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the City County Association of Governments for San Mateo County recommended Foster City for the grant, which is pending final approval.

Council members expressed their gratitude for the successful grant application, highlighting the importance of collaboration and community engagement in securing these funds. One council member, who has served on the bicycle pedestrian committee for four years, emphasized the significance of this funding for economic development and community improvement.

The council also opened the floor for public comments regarding the agenda items, but no members of the public chose to speak. Following the discussions, the council unanimously approved the motion to accept the grant funding, reflecting a collective commitment to enhancing the city's infrastructure for non-motorized transportation.
