Hillcrest plan approved to boost housing and parks

During a recent city council meeting, significant discussions centered around the Hillcrest focus plan amendment, addressing community concerns about housing density, infrastructure, and park space. Council members acknowledged the apprehensions expressed by residents regarding a potential rapid influx of housing units. However, it was clarified that the plan does not mandate the construction of new units; rather, it aims to create opportunities for home builders to propose projects.

The council emphasized the urgent need for affordable housing in San Diego, highlighting the challenges faced by both older residents and younger individuals wishing to remain in their hometown. Concerns about aging infrastructure were also raised, particularly in Hillcrest, with assurances from city planning officials that infrastructure upgrades would be implemented as new developments arise. Development impact fees collected from these projects will contribute to the city's capital improvement program, ensuring that infrastructure can support anticipated growth.
