In a recent government meeting, officials outlined a comprehensive project aimed at enhancing comfort and reducing utility costs across city buildings in Alamogordo. The initiative, which encompasses an extensive audit of nearly 375,000 square feet across 112 sites, seeks to address rising energy and water expenses while improving amenities for both staff and constituents.
Key components of the project include the replacement of over 1,300 lighting fixtures with energy-efficient LED options, designed to enhance comfort through advanced dimming and daylight harvesting technologies. Additionally, the installation of 120 programmable thermostats at 26 locations will allow for remote monitoring, significantly reducing the time spent on temperature-related complaints.
The project also involves upgrading high-efficiency transformers, which are crucial for minimizing energy loss and improving the overall resilience of the buildings. To further enhance comfort, large fans will be installed at the family recreation center to improve air circulation, particularly during peak usage times.
Building weatherization efforts will target 19 facilities, sealing gaps and cracks to prevent energy loss, while water conservation measures are also set to be implemented. This multifaceted approach not only aims to streamline operations but also to mitigate the impact of fluctuating utility rates, ensuring a more sustainable and comfortable environment for the community.
