During a recent Haverhill government meeting, Counselor Ferreira introduced a new initiative aimed at promoting positivity within the community: the \"Say Nice Things About Haverhill\" campaign. The campaign, inspired by a similar effort in Detroit during the 1970s, seeks to encourage residents and visitors alike to share positive sentiments about the city. Ferreira noted that the campaign was officially launched during the Haverhill Art Walk, where attendees could purchase bags featuring the campaign's logo for $10.
The logo, designed to evoke nostalgia for Haverhill's pre-urban renewal era, is available for free to anyone wishing to co-brand it for local events. Ferreira emphasized the importance of fostering a sense of pride in Haverhill, suggesting that the campaign could be integrated into various community activities, including farmers markets and local festivals.
The meeting also featured an invitation from Vice President Tim Jordan to join the Haverhill Rotary Club for a plaque dedication ceremony honoring three distinguished citizens: Dr. George Cogswell, Professor Bill Mobley, and Tony Sapienza. The event is scheduled for July 11 at 5:30 PM at the fountain at Harbor Place, followed by a gathering at a local restaurant.
In addition to these initiatives, the council approved a request from City Engineer John Pettus to open 38 Garrison Ave for National Grid to repair a gas leak, ensuring the continued safety and functionality of the city's infrastructure. The meeting concluded with a report from City Assessor Christine Webb regarding the abatement report for June 2024, highlighting ongoing efforts to maintain transparency and accountability in local governance.
