The Elk Grove Planning Commission convened recently to discuss two significant projects: the tentative parcel map for 10600 Oak Pond Lane and the conditional use permit for the Old Town Pub.
The first item on the agenda involved a proposal to split a 5-acre property into two lots. Kevin Valente, a contract planner, presented the project, noting that no construction is currently planned. The existing residents will remain on-site, with the proposed Parcel A retaining the current residents and Parcel B designated for a future private road and utility easement. Valente highlighted that a previous parcel map was approved in 2003, which included a no-build restriction due to the property's location within a 100-year floodplain. The project was revised to a standard tentative parcel map after it did not meet the requirements for an urban lot split under Senate Bill 9. The Planning Commission unanimously approved the project, finding it exempt from environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act.
The second item focused on the Old Town Pub, where senior planner Kira Killingsworth outlined the applicant's request for a conditional use permit to operate a brewpub at 9030, 9032, and 9036 Elk Grove Boulevard. The proposal includes minor exterior improvements to historic buildings, such as repainting and roofing, while maintaining the integrity of the historic character. The brewpub aims to operate from 10 AM to 2 AM daily, with indoor and outdoor music, although outdoor music will cease by 10 PM to respect nearby residential areas. The project received support from the City’s Historical Preservation Committee, which recommended approval with conditions to ensure compliance with historic preservation standards. The Planning Commission also recommended approval of this project, finding it exempt from CEQA.
Both projects reflect ongoing efforts to balance development with community and environmental considerations in Elk Grove.
