City Commission to decide fate of new family fun center

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed a proposal for a new family fun center located on an 18.61-acre site zoned for general commercial use. The proposed center will occupy approximately 13,600 square feet within an existing plaza, specifically utilizing bays 22 through 28.

The applicant presented a detailed site plan, including existing photos of the plaza and a proposed floor plan that outlines various areas such as a break room, storage warehouse, assembly areas for games, and a cashier station. The design also features a designated play area and a bar seating section, with a focus on family-friendly entertainment.

Key conditions for the approval of the application were outlined, including restrictions on game play for individuals under 18 years of age, a prohibition on alcohol sales and consumption within the arcade unless exceptions are granted by the city commission, and a size limitation for amusement centers not to exceed 9,000 square feet without special permission.

City staff recommended moving the application forward to the city commission for approval, contingent upon the aforementioned conditions. The proposal aims to enhance local entertainment options while ensuring a safe and family-oriented environment.
