FPUA crews honored for heroic response to tornado disaster

The Fort Pierce Utility Board convened on Monday afternoon, commencing with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. The meeting, led by Chairperson Carol Wilson, confirmed a quorum and proceeded to set the agenda, which included a notable item regarding the recognition of local electric crews.

A significant highlight of the session was the acknowledgment of the Fort Pierce Utility Authority (FPUA) electric crews for their rapid response to assist the City of Tallahassee after it was struck by three tornadoes on May 10. This disaster resulted in widespread power outages affecting approximately 80,000 residents. FPUA crews prepared to deploy immediately, receiving commendation for their efforts from the American Public Power Association. The Tallahassee electric director described the storm as the most severe event he had encountered in two decades, surpassing even multiple hurricanes.

The meeting concluded with a formal recognition of the FPUA crews for their dedication and service during this critical time, underscoring the importance of municipal cooperation in emergency situations.
