During a recent government meeting, a diverse group of students from Alamo Heights showcased their talents and leadership as part of the Fine Arts program and the Student Advisory Council. The meeting began with performances from several students, including seniors Giselle Varela and Roman Rodriguez, both violinists, and Sofia Cebuentes, a senior flutist and soprano choir member. The presence of parents was acknowledged, highlighting community support for the arts.
Following the performances, the spotlight shifted to the Student Advisory Council, composed of students from various grades, including 5th, 8th, and 11th graders. Each member was nominated by their campus administrators for their leadership qualities. The council focuses on core values such as integrity, courage, empathy, and resilience, which guide their discussions and initiatives.
The council's meetings have fostered open dialogue about student experiences and areas for improvement within the school system. Notably, students expressed their opinions on cafeteria offerings and contributed to discussions regarding the architectural design of the new high school, ensuring their voices are reflected in the planning process. This engagement underscores the district's commitment to involving students in decision-making and enhancing their educational environment.
