Willowbrook students shine at art and sports events

In a recent government meeting, several notable achievements and events from local schools were highlighted, showcasing the talents and efforts of students and educators in the community.

Willowbrook Elementary celebrated the artistic accomplishments of students Cali Scott and Kinsley Case, whose artwork was featured at the Dogwood Arts Synergy Art Exhibition. The school also hosted its 3rd annual Super Hoops Basketball game, which drew a large crowd and featured an impressive performance by the cheerleaders. Special recognition was given to Meghan Sawyer, who received the 2024 Special Educator of the Year award from Pilot International, acknowledging her dedication to her students.

Dr. Tiffany Collins, a 3rd-grade math and science teacher at Willowbrook, gained media attention for her engaging eclipse activities, further highlighting the school's commitment to innovative education. Additionally, Willowbrook organized a TN Ready parent meeting for families of 2nd to 4th graders, where teachers discussed testing strategies and the implications of the 3rd-grade retention law. The event was well-received, with parents expressing appreciation for the information shared.

At Robertsville Middle School, students from the Technology Student Association (TSA) excelled at the state competition in Chattanooga, securing 1st place in 16 categories and earning multiple other accolades. The school also celebrated 7th grader Farrah Atherton, who won first place in the Dogwood Arts Synergy Art Competition.

Jefferson Hills School reported impressive achievements in track and field, with 8th graders Jacob Holman and Harry Shanafield setting new school records in long jump and discus, respectively.

Oak Ridge High School honored Coach Winston Russell during the annual Oak Ridge Legends Invitational Track Meet, recognizing his significant contributions to the school and community. The event included a tribute video produced by students, celebrating the legacy of both Coach Russell and Coach Sylvia Brinkman.

Lastly, Oak Ridge High School's Lisa Weathers was awarded a TVA STEM classroom grant, with a presentation scheduled for May 1st, further emphasizing the school's commitment to enhancing educational resources.
