Heroic responders honored for saving life in cardiac arrest

During a recent government meeting, Fire Chief Andy Agatha presented a detailed report on emergency response statistics for the month, highlighting a total of 91 calls, with Medic 1 handling the majority. The average response time was recorded at 15 minutes and 39 seconds, while the total call volume for the year reached 459. The report also noted that volunteer firefighters contributed an impressive 13,238 hours of standby time over the past five months.

Agatha provided updates on various initiatives, including the completion of an EMT class, with three out of eight students passing their tests. He emphasized the importance of a new radio system project, which is progressing with the Public Safety Radio Committee and aims to finalize infrastructure needs by mid-June.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to honoring members of the emergency response team for their life-saving efforts during a cardiac arrest incident on April 16. The American Heart Association recognized the quick actions of dispatchers and responders, which led to the successful resuscitation of Kelsey Marcellus. Awards were presented to the individuals involved, including dispatcher Cheryl Bolden and several volunteer firefighters.

The meeting concluded with a call for continued collaboration and training among emergency services, underscoring the commitment to public safety and community support.
